In Gdansk, at the end of April, the first road in Poland to pass underneath a river was opened - the tunnel under the Martwa Wisla river.
Construction took over 4 years and cost almost PLN 900 million. The tunnel under the Martwa Wisla river will certainly go down in history as the first of its kind in Poland and will bring even more prestige to Gdansk, improving its reputation among the most developed European cities. The tunnel has two lanes in each direction and is around 1,400 m long. The deepest point reaches 35 m under the rived bed.The tunnel is an important element of Trasa Sucharskiego and connects the western part - the Airport, with the port area of the city. Gdansk inhabitants are very satisfied with the investment, because new tunnel reduced the number of cars passing through the city centre. In particular, people travelling to Warsaw are pleased with the new tunnel and lorry drivers, because the new road makes the journey from Tricity Beltway to the DCT Gdansk container terminal easier.  The project is overseen by the Administration of Roads and Green Areas in Gdansk.
